Someone said it’s a ny thing…while on my break I witnessed a man trip and face plant on concrete…he sat on the concrete for a moment while people stopped and stared…some snapped photos…he then stood up and started to walk…i went over when no one else did to ask if he was ok…obviously he was dazed…i made him sit down while trying to find someone with a radio…when I did I told them to contact EMS…the guy had no idea how. After debating the chain of command, he finally got his supervisor to contact ems to our location. This guy sat there blood gushing from his forehead and no one did anything but look…after getting ems services, I ran over to the bar and asked for ice, water, and paper towels. I made an ice pack and a wet towel for his forehead…told him to keep pressure on it…I kept talking to him, asking who he was, how he was feeling, etc. Still people just watched. There wasnt much i could do from that position on but try and direct his hand to the wound…since i had no gloves. But about 10min later 2 police officers arrived and EMTs came about 3min later. He was wheeled off to 1st aid. At the end, he was calm but still disoriented. He went on about the uneven bricks on the walkway and he wanted everyone to know that is a serious hazard. I gave up my whole break, where I was gonna get food…cuz I was starving, and ruined my work shirt, just to help another person out that I did not know. I admit…afterwards, i didnt feel accomplished or anything for helping him…I was more confused..it was a weird feeling…no one took any kinda action when he fell…are we that closed off to others where we rather not get involved in things…maybe we want to see what the next person does…or is this just as a coworker said…New Yorkers for ya. #PromoLife #PromoNate #WheresNate #RoamingNewYorkCity #USOpen2K17 #USOpen
